Storytelling is an ancient art and part of our common human culture. Research on storytelling in primary education emphasizes its positive impacts on language devel- opment. The first part of the analysis covers the theory of second-language acquisi- tion in primary school. The second part presents a study of a teachers personal de- velopment as a storyteller in the first class of a primary school. Additionally, the anal- ysis focuses on narrative competence of pupils wih German as a second language, using three examples of pupils retelling stories during a period of a schoolyear. In the third part three successful examples of storytelling methods in the classroom are shown. The final part is on multilingual storytelling in the classroom and its impact on children.
